Documentation

The railway of your RedM server. Players open a railroad company, buy a steam engine and its cars, and run them on the game's lines: they fire a real boiler, take on coal and water, carry passengers and freight, keep the track open and paint their engine in a customization hall. Every player sees the same train, the same cargo and the same passengers. Runs on RSG and VORP.

Railroad companies

  • Anyone opens a company at a station's railroad office, even alone ($20 by default)
  • Roles: owner, manager and employee, up to 20 people per company
  • Hire the players standing near you; job offers wait for an answer
  • Company till: deposits, owner withdrawals and a statement of the last 30 movements
  • Crew commission: a share of every freight contract goes to the members who carried it
  • Catalogue: the engine first, then up to 12 cars: passenger cars, boxcars, flatcars and the caboose
  • The train is put together from the company's cars each time it is called
  • Money comes in from tickets, NPC fares, freight and track repairs

Real steam cab

  • A real boiler: coal in the tender and the firebox, water in the tender and the boiler, pressure and steam
  • Driver and fireman: one drives, another works the fire beside him
  • 8-step throttle, reverser, brake, emergency brake, whistle and cruise control
  • Fire up and down, the injector and the coal shovel, 15 kg a shovel
  • Cab panel: speed, pressure, coal, water, throttle, brake and reverser
  • Cab map with the next switch, stations, water, coal, the train ahead and your freight's destination
  • Train cameras: the game's train camera, the coach and beside the cab
  • Low water under a high fire damages the boiler; a dry boiler stops the train or explodes (your choice)
  • Heavier trains are slower, and cargo counts
  • 50 custom animations: the driver's throttle, brake, reverser and whistle, the fireman's shovel, firebox door and injector, the water spout, the switch lever, ticket checks, carrying every cargo piece and every repair

Coal and water

  • Shovel coal from the station's pile into the tender, 75 kg a trip
  • Pull the spout of a water tower over the tender, 150 litres a second
  • Coal and water at every station, plus 6 water towers along the line
  • By hand and free, with our own shovel, coal pile and water tower

Passengers

  • Ticket counter with every train coming, its stops, prices and the next arrival
  • Ticket priced by the km along the track, good for 24 hours, kept in the satchel
  • Take a seat in the coach; a small map shows the way and your stop
  • Arrival notices for trains less than 10 minutes away
  • NPC passengers wait on the platform, board, get off and pay their fare to the company
  • Conductor: the crew checks a player's ticket
  • Tickets come back if the train leaves the world with you aboard

Freight

  • Contracts at the station booths: crates, barrels and logs
  • Every piece is carried by hand into its place on the car, with its own carry animation, and every player sees it there
  • Pay by weight and distance, a deadline, half pay when late
  • Flatcars carry 2 contracts, boxcars 1, up to 3 per train
  • Map blips for where to load and where to unload

Wear and repairs

  • Wheels, brakes and boiler wear with use: slower train, worse braking, less pressure
  • Repair at the station yards and at 4 workshops, step by step by hand: jack up the trucks, change the wheels, the brake shoes, scrape the firebox, patch the tubes
  • The crew pays only for the parts
  • Caboose work crew: the workers get off, repair the train anywhere on the line and sit back down

Track maintenance

  • Broken rails appear along the lines and close their block
  • Repair by hand with the tools from the tender: crowbar, new sleeper and the spikes driven on the beat
  • Or call the caboose's workers to do it
  • Every repair pays the company

Modifiable locomotive

  • Customization MLO: a lit locomotive hall, private to the owner while it is open
  • 8 parts with an orbit camera that turns to each one
  • 23 colours for the engine and the tender: the game's 7 presets and 16 of ours
  • 3 front finishes: graphite, black or the body colour
  • 9 liveries, picked apart for the engine and the tender
  • Door star, brass candlesticks and a tender toolbox
  • A cart with prices, paid from the company till; every player sees the new look

Railway network

  • 12 stations ready: Rhodes, Flatneck, Riggs, Wallace, Annesburg, Saint Denis, Emerald, Valentine, Heartland Oil Fields, MacFarlane's Ranch, Armadillo and Benedict Point
  • 8 railroad offices and a Steamline booth on every platform
  • Block signals: a train never runs into a block another train holds
  • Throw switches from the cab or by their lever
  • Warning when a train runs at you on your own track
  • 4 NPC timetable lines (Heartland Local, Lannahechee Line, Bayou Express, Cumberland Line) that give the line up to player trains and sell tickets too
  • The game's random trains are turned off so they never hit player trains
  • A parked train keeps its coal, water, wear and paint

Admin

  • Admin panel with a live map of every train, company trains and NPC trains
  • Emergency stop, move to a station or remove any train
  • Every company with its till, members and statement; adjust money or close it
  • Log of the last 100 events
  • Commands: list, stop and delete trains, also from the server console

Server

  • RSG and VORP, detected by itself
  • No jobs to create: companies and trains are kept by the resource
  • One item only: the train ticket
  • Database tables created on the first start
  • Everything in the config: stations, prices, boiler, keys, freight, wear and NPC routes
  • English and Portuguese
  • Full documentation: rust-co.mintlify.app
